Afra: The Ascended Master of Brotherhood, Freedom, and Divine Unity
In the teachings of the Ascended Masters, Afra is known as the patron of Africa and of the black race. He holds a special place in the spiritual history of humanity as the first member of the black race to make his ascension.
Long ago, Afra offered his name and fame to God in service to a vast continent and a mighty people. When he ascended, he asked to be called simply “a brother,” from the Latin word frater. From this comes the name Afra.
This simple title reveals much about his mission. Afra comes not to exalt separation, but to restore brotherhood. His path teaches that beyond race, nation, outer identity, and history, all souls come forth from the heart of God.
The Patron of Africa
Afra is described in the Ascended Master Encyclopedia as the patron of Africa and of the black race. His service is deeply connected with the divine plan for the continent of Africa and for the descendants of Afra in America.
The teachings explain that Africa once knew ancient golden ages when it was part of Lemuria and that the Great Divine Director continues to sponsor the divine plan for the continent of Africa, as well as for the descendants of Afra in America.
This gives Afra’s mission a profound meaning. His work is not only historical. It is spiritual, planetary, and deeply connected with the healing, freedom, and divine destiny of a people.
Beyond Race: The Brotherhood of the Soul
One of the most important teachings connected with Afra is the understanding that, from a spiritual perspective, there is no black race or white race in heaven. The ascended masters are not identified by former race or religion. All races come forth from the heart of God under the seven rays, or seven paths of initiation.
This teaching does not erase the suffering, history, or responsibility connected with race on earth. Rather, it lifts our vision to the divine origin of every soul.
Afra reminds us that every soul is a child of God. Every person has a divine calling. Every nation has a virtue to manifest. And every race has a gift to place upon the altar of God.
The Blue Ray and the Violet Ray
The teachings say that the members of what is now known as the black race came forth on the blue ray and the violet ray.
The blue ray carries the qualities of God’s power, will, faith, protection, and divine direction. The violet ray carries the qualities of freedom, justice, mercy, forgiveness, and transmutation.
Together, these rays reveal a powerful spiritual destiny: to master the will of God and the freedom of God; to bring faith, justice, mercy, courage, and divine power into manifestation.
Afra’s mission therefore speaks directly to the needs of our time. Humanity needs brotherhood. Nations need healing. Communities need justice. Souls need freedom. And all people need the violet flame to transmute division, pain, and ancient records of separation.
Healing Division Through Divine Love
Afra’s work is especially meaningful wherever there has been division, oppression, separation, or the misuse of power.
The teachings explain that division between races came through the tactics of divide and conquer, destroying the unity of God’s children and their oneness in the flame. Afra’s mission helps restore that lost unity.
His path calls us to overcome hatred, bitterness, fear, prejudice, and the records of injustice. This healing does not come through denial. It comes through spiritual courage, repentance, forgiveness, truth, and the sacred fire of the violet flame.
Afra teaches the heart to become a place of reconciliation. He helps us remember that brotherhood is not merely a social idea. It is a divine reality.
Afra and the Call to Spiritual Brotherhood
To call upon Afra is to call for the healing of the family of God.
His name, meaning “brother,” reminds us that the path of ascension is not walked in isolation. We rise by loving, serving, forgiving, and recognizing the light in one another.
Afra’s example invites us to ask:
How can I become a better brother or sister to the children of God?
How can I help heal division in my family, community, and nation?
How can I use the violet flame to transmute records of injustice and separation?
How can I stand for freedom, justice, mercy, and divine will?
A Message for America and the World
Afra’s mission is deeply relevant to America. The history of the descendants of Afra in America includes great suffering, but also great spiritual strength, endurance, faith, music, prayer, community, and courage.
In Washington, D.C., where the voice of the people and the blueprint of the nation are to be made manifest, Afra’s message is especially important.
God-government cannot be built on division. It must be built on divine justice, mercy, freedom, and brotherhood. A nation cannot fulfill its highest destiny unless it honors the light within all people and works to heal the wounds of separation.
Afra reminds us that true freedom requires unity in the heart of God.
Calling to Afra
We can call to Afra for the healing of racial division, the protection of the children of God, the restoration of brotherhood, and the fulfillment of the divine plan for Africa, America, and all nations.
Beloved Afra, ascended master of brotherhood, freedom, and divine unity, help us to see one another through the eyes of God. Help us heal the records of separation and injustice. Teach us to master the blue ray of God’s will and the violet ray of freedom, justice, mercy, and transmutation. May the family of God be restored in love, truth, and divine brotherhood.
Afra’s path is a path of humility, service, and unity. He reminds us that every soul has a divine origin, every people has a sacred destiny, and every heart can become a chalice for the flame of brotherhood.
